About The Local Area

Haxey, a historic village 13 miles from Doncaster, is perfect for quiet getaways, business stays, visits to family and days into nights at Doncaster Races! Once the capital of the Isle of Axholme, Haxey is home to the Grade I listed St Nicholas Church, dating back to the 12th century. The town is famous for the “Haxey Hood”, a 14th-century rugby-style game played every year on 6th January, inspired by a local legend involving Lady de Mowbray’s silk hood. The area also offers over 40 miles of walking routes linking nearby towns, including Epworth, birthplace of John Wesley, founder of Methodism.
